CARE started work in Romania in 1947.
Relief efforts in Romania
In recent years, CARE has worked with longstanding partner organizations in Romania responding to the needs of the most at-risk populations, particularly children in need.
In response to the conflict that has broken out in Ukraine, of those partners, SERA, is at the enter of CARE’s response to those fleeing the country. With SERA and the Federation of Child Protection NGOs (FONPC), an umbrella organization with over 80 members, CARE is helping to deliver relief items to the Isaccea border crossing including diapers, baby bottles, baby slings, warm clothes, and blankets. CARE is also working with Red Cross.
CARE has trained over 500 psychologists and volunteers on psychosocial support and emergency first aid. In the coming weeks and months, CARE and SERA will also begin sending trucks of relief items into southwestern Ukraine, including urgently needed toiletry and food items.
