Guatemala

CARE begun working with community groups to improve rural healthcare and education in 1959.
Our focus has extended to women, children, and families in rural and Indigenous communities, with programs that involve:
  • Women’s leadership
  • Disaster resilience
  • Climate adaptation
  • Primary healthcare
  • Girls’ education
  • Women’s entrepreneurship

In response to COVID-19, CARE has bridged cultural gaps to ensure vaccination access for marginalised groups, especially women and girls. Our commitment drives positive change in Guatemala.

Supporting Children’s Nutrition

In support of a resilient community facing climate change and achieving food security, we teamed up with Quaker in the Quaker Crece program.

This partnership has reached 2,200 children, empowering their recovery from malnutrition. We believe that consuming adequate nutrition from 2 to 5 years old can prevent 54% of childhood illnesses

CARE provides specialised food, carefully crafted by Quaker, which covers a portion of children’s daily nutritional needs. This initiative targets children aged 2 to 5 years old, who face acute or moderate malnutrition and growth challenges.

Our involvement is holistic, going door-to-door to get families involved. We empower them with knowledge and skills through education on good hygiene and feeding practices.

We are committed to battling food insecurity and malnutrition – with an approach that prioritises direct interventions, economic empowerment for women, and building resilience in communities to face the challenges of climate change.
