Donate to Myanmar Earthquake Disaster Appeal
CARE in Myanmar is working alongside local partners to begin delivering aid to impacted communities following Friday’s catastrophic earthquake. More than 2,000 casualties have been reported, with numbers continuing to grow. Thousands of people remain missing.
The Situation in Myanmar
On March 28, 2025, Myanmar experienced a 7.7 magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter in Sagaing Region, near the center of Myanmar. A state of emergency has been declared in Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Eastern Shan, Naypyidaw, and Bago regions.
Myanmar is already facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with 19.9 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. The earthquake has exacerbated these challenges, putting additional strain on the country’s resources and response capabilities.
Widespread damage and casualties are expected.
“CARE Myanmar is on the ground and has begun its emergency response alongside our dedicated partners who have been among the first responders. We have already distributed emergency health kits to several camps. Our priority is to help people meet their urgent needs; the situation demands far more – shelters, medicine and clean water are all critically needed. This catastrophe has brought already vulnerable communities to their knees. People traumatised by the earthquake are sleeping on the streets, with no clean water or food to eat and nowhere to escape from the heat. They simply don’t know where to turn or where to find safety. Our emergency relief teams are witnessing complete devastation everywhere we go,” says Arif Noor, CARE Myanmar Country Director.
Immediate needs will include:
- Food and water access
- Medical attention for the injured and medical supplies
- Emergency shelter
- Distribution of hygiene kits
CARE Australia is working with our partners to deliver aid to people affected by this earthquake in the region. Funds raised in this restricted appeal will be used to respond to this humanitarian crisis. In the case where donations for a particular appeal exceed what is needed or where local conditions prevent program implementation, we will redirect your dollars to families who urgently need humanitarian support because of conflict, hunger, or other crisis situations around the world.

Donations over $2 are tax deductible. Should the funds raised through an emergency appeal exceed the amount required to meet the immediate and longer term needs of the people in the affected areas, or if there are changes in circumstances beyond CARE’s control which limit its ability to utilise all funds in the affected areas, CARE will direct excess funds to other emergency relief activities in the future.
