Missra’s Story
Missra is only 20, and she’s trying to keep two small children alive through one of the worst droughts Ethiopia has ever seen.
For Missra being hungry is hard enough. But watching her children starve is heartbreaking. Like most mothers, Missra eats least and last so her children can have more. But it means she is now so malnourished she can barely breast feed her one-year-old baby. There is simply not enough food to sustain them all.
“I feed my children first. They starve so fast, but I can only give them a small handful.”
A few years ago, CARE supporters funded small business training for Missra. She started a business selling fruit and vegetables — and her earnings helped the family survive the first phase of the drought.
Today Missra needs your continued support so she can, against the odds, start to rebuild a future for her family again.
