Support women to defeat poverty this October

Challenge yourself to do 3000 squats this October and raise funds to support women all around the world to defeat poverty!

Up for the challenge? Sponsorship donations from your friends and family supporting your efforts could help women start a new business, create nutritious meals for their family, or attend training with their partners to learn the importance of sharing financial planning and decision making.

Take up the challenge now!

Join our Squat Squad Challenge Facebook group. This group is your one stop shop for support, encouragement, and community. As you share your efforts, this group will keep you accountable, motivated, and supported. And we’ll be with you every squat on the way – with the support and resources you need as you squat through October and raise funds to defeat poverty!

Want to donate in support of a friend?

Whether you donate $5 or $500, every little bit will help more women break the cycle of poverty and participate in decisions that affect their lives.

For example, $50 could train and equip a village health volunteer to provide pregnant women and new mothers with vital health and nutrition information – support every mother deserves.

The best place to donate in support of a friend is on their personal Facebook fundraising page, so your donation appears on their donations tracker. However, if you’d prefer to donate here on our website, feel free to email info@care.org.au once you’ve processed your donation, and let us know who your donation is in support of – so we can let them know and keep track of their fundraising efforts.

How to get started

When you join our Squat Squad you’ll be sent a FREE welcome pack. In the pack is everything you need to get you started:

  • a Fundraising Tracker to help recruit supporters and hit your fundraising goal;
  • a Challenge Tracker to keep you on track towards your target of 3000 squats by the end of October; and
  • a sweatband to keep you seeing clearly — be sure to wear it and share some photos in the Facebook group and on your fundraising page!

What’s the challenge?

Whether you’re going to undertake this challenge at home, at the gym, or at the beach, the challenge is to use 31 days in October to complete 3000 squats – so roughly 100 a day with one rest day! Don’t forget to show your supporters how you’re getting on by sharing some photos of you in action, and celebrating your milestones with them.

Why?

Every dollar we raise as we band together through the month of October, will go towards supporting women around the world to lift themselves and their communities from poverty.

CARE Australia supports women around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice. We work in partnership with local communities to provide equal opportunities for women that they have long been denied: the ability to earn an income, gain access to their fair share of resources, to lead and participate in decisions that affect their lives, and to be able to withstand the increasing impacts of climate disasters and other crises.

Meet Selina!

Every dollar you raise, as you complete 3000 squats in October, can support women like Selina. Selina has been training with CARE in the Young Women’s Leadership Program in Vanuatu, learning business and leadership skills, and has become a community leader, and entrepreneur.

Selina is uplifting her community by sharing her skills with other women in the hope that they will be able to support themselves and their families too.

“We must not be greedy with the skills we have which may be of great help to others.”

Where’s the money going?

Funds raised for CARE Australia will support women and their communities to defeat poverty, adapt to global warming, and save lives in times of crisis. For those living in extreme poverty, your support can provide women with equal opportunities to earn an income, gain access to their fair share of resources, participate in decisions that affect their lives, and lead their communities through the increasing impacts of climate disasters and other crises.

We put women at the centre of all that we do because we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.

$30 can provide healthcare for a new mum and her baby so their first months together are happy and healthy.

$75 can stock a medical clinic, and provide rural health clinics with essentials.

$100 could help a woman start her own small business and fulfil her dream of earning an income to support her family.

$180 can provide a CARE package of education – providing school books, uniforms, backpacks, and building toilets.
